Specialist, Financial Aid
FT/PT: Part-Time
General Position Description: Performs student service in the financial aid process. Reviews electronic processing reports, makes decisions on program eligibility, and approves financial aid awards. Contacts students, agencies and technical staff to resolve application processing problems. Prepares reports and monitors business processes for accuracy. Provides assistance to Answer Center and Student Services staff with regard to financial aid regulations or decisions.
Salary Range: $ 18.58 per hour
Description of Job Function: 1. Meets with students whose financial aid service needs require special attention and in-depth knowledge of financial aid regulations.
Required Minimum Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to apply learning-centered concepts to the financial aid process.
- Ability to reason and exercise judgment and discretion.
- Ability to learn and understand federal and state regulations.
- Must be granted security access to NSLDS, COD and other secure federal and state websites.
- (Cannot be in default on a prior student loan).
- Works inside in an office environment.
General Working Conditions: This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
